The show was aired from March 2013 to April 2017 and is inspired by the thriller novel “Psycho”. Bates Motel focuses on the (abnormal) relationship between Norman Bates and his mother Norma, and how he develops into a serial killer.

Season 1 begins with Norma and Norman moving to their new house in a small town after the death of Norma’s husband. Norma purchases a motel so that the two can start a new life. Norman has an intensely close and complicated relationship with his mother. He slowly becomes mentally ill and dangerous in the following seasons, while Norma tries to protect her son and refuses to have him institutionalised. It is revealed later on that Norman’s father was murdered by Norman himself, however he is unaware of it.

Bates Motel is a very dark show as every season always concludes with a murder and the mother and son relationship in the show is lowkey incestuous.

The show scores 8.2/10 on IMDb
